Robert Cleveland, 11, and Nickales Mulliniks, 8, receive toys on Christmas Eve. Adults are (L-R) Kelly Scoggan, Sheriff’s Deputy Joe Garcia, Santa Claus, Jame Olle, Kristen Chambers and Melanie Long.
It was a merry Christmas for hundreds of Kern River Valley kids who might not have had such a great holiday if it hadn’t been for the efforts of George and Darlene Randall of Kernville.

Darlene Randall is the instigator behind Kernville’s Christmas Parade of Giving, held in early December. Toys collected during that parade and from businesses are stored for giving to needy kids. This year the toys were distributed on Christmas Eve Day.

“It went fantastic!” said Randall. “We gave 99 bags of Christmas presents. We gave toys to the Food Pantry, God’s Storehouse, the Family Resource Center and miscellaneous others.

“(Also) Santa Claus found out about other kids that weren’t on our list,” she continued.

“It’s just wonderful that all these children that wouldn’t have anything (got presents).”

Randall said that she’s happy making good memories for kids.
“They’re always going to remember that good part of December.”
