Santa's Visit
Andreus Morgan, 3, sits on Santa’s lap. Murdoc Douglas/Special to the Courier
If you’re in the mood to participate in the season, you’ve been having plenty of opportunities. And there’s lots more to come.

Friday evening, Dec. 7, there was a candle stroll and Christmas carol singing event headed by the Sweet Adelines. It was more of a candle huddle, though, as it was raining that evening and the hardy participants gathered under tent covers in Circle Park to sing Christmas songs while holding candles.

The next evening was the Christmas Parade of Giving in Kernville, organized by Darlene Randall, during which toys and gifts were collected for distribution to families that will have a bright Christmas this year.

Coming up are many more activities of the season.
    • On Saturday, Dec. 15, the Whitman Dance Studio will present “Twas the Night,” a celebration of the holidays in dance. It will take place at Kern Valley High School at 6:30 p.m. $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12. Tickets available at the studio or at the door.
    • On Sunday, Dec. 16 the Sportsman’s Inn in Kernville will be holding a Christmas Golf Tournament at the golf course in  Kernville with proceeds going to children of the valley. $30 with unwrapped toy, $40 without. There will be prizes.
    • On Sunday, Dec. 16, at 2 p.m. the Kern River Valley Elks Lodge will hold its annual Children’s Christmas Party. All children are welcome to come see Santa and receive a toy. If you need more information, call the lodge at 376-6475.
    • On Sunday, Dec. 16 at 4 p.m. the Kern Valley Community Orchestra will be presenting “The Sounds Of Christmas” at Kernville Elementary School. The selections to be performed include March Of The Nutcracker, Trepak, O Holy Night, German Carol Festival, Stille Nacht and more. There will be additional music provided by The Jazz Tones. Donations will be accepted at the door and children are free. Refreshments will be served.
    • On Saturday, Dec. 22 the KRV CB’ers will not be having their breakfast, but instead will be having a Christmas potluck with music from 2 to 5 p.m.
    • On Monday, Dec. 24, My Place restaurant in Lake Isabella will be giving away free Christmas meals from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sponsored by My Place Great Vision and Guitarelements.com. All volunteers and contributions are greatly appreciated.

The Courier will print news of other Christmas events happening in the valley.
