Samantha Valdez and Jessie Beeler Kernville’s annual two-day Christmas festival will be taking place Friday and Saturday, Dec. 7 and 8, when the picturesque town once again becomes an enchanted “village of lights.”The celebration will kick off on Friday, Dec. 7 when there will be a candle stroll throughout the streets of Kernville, starting at 5 p.m. The local chapter of the Sweet Adelines women’s singing group will lead Christmas caroling.
Refreshments will be offered at the Big Blue Bear, donated by community members. A live Nativity scene in Circle Park will also be held that night, featuring members of Mountain View Baptist Church of Lake Isabella.
The next day, Saturday, Dec. 8, there will be another annual event which is spearheaded by Darlene Randall, a Kernville resident with a big heart who came up with an idea for a Christmas parade. Classic restored cars drive through Kernville collecting toys from homes and other parade watchers.
The toys are stored and given out just prior to Christmas to needy families.
The parade starts at around 4 p.m. when the cars start lining up. At the end of the parade, Santa Claus is delivered to his headquarters in Circle Park, where eager children await him. He will also be there Dec. 12, 15, 19 and 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. so that children may visit with him.
