Some people just don’t know when their leg is being pulled. Someone on the Courier staff (unnamed but his initials are M.L.) sometimes inserts fake classified ads into the Courier Marketplace section as a gag. This staffer is a real card (the Joker). In last week’s issue, a classified ad appeared that read, “Man Wanted For Work in Dynamite Factory. Must be willing to travel a far distance and be capable of working in many areas at one time. You’ll really get a bang out of this position. Call 555-5858.” Funny, right? Well, the Courier has received several calls lately from men who were disappointed to find that the job didn’t really exist but was a gag. A clue to those without a sense of humor: the 555 telephone exchange is a dummy number that is used for movie and TV phone numbers.
